Monique Wingard is a digital media consultant and contributing writer highlighting trends, challenges, and Black founders in civic technology.

In 2014, Monique established SAVVY Consulting & Communications to support Black women across private and public sectors by using digital marketing tools to improve their digital footprint. She has managed social media campaigns for the BOSS Network, WDB Marketing, facilitated workshops for the Small Business Administration (SBA), SCORE Mentors, and has contributed to publications including The Chicago Defender, WTTW-Chicago/PBS, Blavity, and EBONY Magazine.

During her professional journey in Chicago, Monique served on the first corporate digital team at McDonald’s Corporation before being recruited by the incubator, 1871 Chicago, where she managed their blog, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts. She later bolstered the digital media strategy of Urban Ministries Inc, which played an integral role in the organization's continued transformation and global sales.

Her interest in community-based media and technology began with early career opportunities at the Ohio House of Representatives, CBS Radio-Atlanta, the Ohio Senate, and the Washington DC Bureau of Tribune Broadcasting.

Monique’s dedication to providing access to advancement opportunities for women and the next generation of leaders are evident through her community involvement. She has served as an Assistant Troop Leader for St. John A.M.E. Church (Cleveland, OH), Board Member at Chi Hack Night, Colony 5, and The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Chicago Chapter.  She considers her time volunteering as the Community Outreach Lead for the Chicago Chapter of Black Girls Code to be one of the most impactful and meaningful experiences affirming her commitment to being an advocate for women and girls in STEAM.

She received her M.A. in Media Management from the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University and B.A. in Public Affairs Journalism from The Ohio State University as well as her M.S. in Social Science Administration from Case Western Reserve University.
