Community is Key: The Silver Room Block Party

My friends and I are fairly new to Chicago; and we each have a story about friends or family, who have understandably voiced concern for our safety and decision to move here. While Chicago violence is reported almost daily in the media, statistics prove that the city is far from being the most dangerous. We may not be from Chicago but we were each beaming with pride, snapping photos and sharing video footage on our social media pages—to show everyone a south side we rarely see or hear about in the news.

The 14th Annual Silver Room Block Party was by far one of the best weekends I have experienced in Chicago. Harper Court and 53rd Street were filled with smiles, good music, people and new memories that I’m sure will be cherished for years to come.

Many thanks to Eric Williams, owner of The Silver Room and all who took part in this beautiful display of community. If you attended and had a good time, stop by to make a small donation or to simply say thank you.

Check out the hashtag: #silverroomblockparty on Facebook, Twitter, and definitely Instagram for a glimpse of the party of the summer.

Eric Williams, the owner of The Silver Room, has taken a vision and created something great and good for the city of Chicago to be proud of. It is an example of Black excellence.

There’s nothing like a block party to bring neighborhood folks to the yard. And Eric Williams, owner of the Silver Room boutique, throws a block party that can’t be beat.
